Mechanism
CRH from the hypothalamus drives pituitary release of ACTH, which in turn stimulates adrenal cortisol — making CRH the top of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) stress axis. Cortisol feeds back to restrain CRH and ACTH.
