Mechanism
Cleaved from pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC), α-MSH activates several melanocortin receptors with strikingly different physiology by tissue: pigmentation via MC1R on melanocytes, energy balance via hypothalamic MC4R, and anti-inflammatory signaling more broadly.
